Meet Nicolene

AfriLearn AI is a one-woman labour of love. Nicolene is a doctor of laws who lives where technology meets the people it affects. She has been teaching AI literacy since late 2022, to students, professionals, lawyers and academics alike, and holds a teaching award for exactly that work.

Her world is both halves of the machine: she lectures in IT law at a tertiary institution, is professionally affiliated with a neural and machine development institute, has served on the committee for the national AI framework, runs her own tech start-ups, consults on AI in practice, and actively researches and writes on the field. That double fluency, technical and legal at once, is what makes her teaching different: she can show you how the machine works and where the lines are, in the same breath.

Years in lecture halls kept showing her the same thing: people were either afraid of AI or quietly misusing it, and almost nobody had been taught the one thing that changes everything, which is how the machine actually works. So she built the course she wished every student had on day one: honest about what AI gets wrong, practical about what it does brilliantly, priced for a student budget, light enough on data to study anywhere, and finished with a certificate that anyone can verify.
